Research Activities

The research activities of the German Language Department cover two important aspects. The first aspect are the pedagogical methodology studies that provide the scientific basis for the educational methodology work aiming at the attainment of its major objective defined as the development of the German-language communication competence in students. The second aspect is the study in the field of the German philology, whose practical importance for the teaching process is based, for instance, on the study of specific features of the development and the operation of German as specialist language in economics.

The focus on the students' needs, the development of their creative abilities and the profound fluency in German are the priority, which determines the focus of the Department's research work and ensured its involvement during years 2011 — 2015 in the state-funded research pursued at the International Economics and Management Faculty. The Department is in charge of the subsection referred to as the Development of the Intercultural Competence at Foreign Language Lessons.

The material examples of the achievements in the field of the teaching methodology include the development of the Framework Programme in German for the Professional Communication for Higher Education Establishments of Ukraine developed with the involvement of M.M. Havrysh and endorsed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and recommended by the ministry for the utilisation in the course of the development of curricula and programmes, and the thesis of Halyna Kopyl referred to as Development of the Professional Competence in Future International Economics Specialists in the Course of the Study of Foreign Languages.

The second aspect of the research work relies on the research into the German philology based on personal research interests of scientists of the Department in the fields of the German phonetics, lexicology, phraseology, translation, etc.

The scientific potential of the Department relies, first of all, on scientists with the PhD degree: five of them are PhDs in Philology and one of them is a PhD in Pedagogical Sciences. They account for 30% of the staff, which is a good indicator for a linguistic department in a non-linguistic university.
