Anatolii Shevchenko was born on May 17, 1948, in Bryansk Oblast.

He graduated from the Physics Department of DonDU, specializing in “Radiophysics and Electronics.”

In 1985, he defended his Candidate’s dissertation, and in 1990, his Doctoral dissertation, earning the academic degrees of Candidate and then Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 2000, he defended a Doctoral dissertation on the topic “Fundamentals of Christianity: The Path to Truth.” By decision of the Academic Council of the Kyiv Theological Academy, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Theology.

In 1991, at the initiative of Anatolii Shevchenko, the Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems was founded under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Anatolii Shevchenko was appointed Director of this institute. In 1996, in conjunction with the Informatics Department of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, he founded the international scientific-theoretical journal Artificial Intelligence and was appointed its Editor-in-Chief.

In 1997, on his initiative, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine established a higher education institution - the Donetsk State Institute of Artificial Intelligence - on the basis of the Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence Problems. By order of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Anatolii Shevchenko was appointed Rector of the newly formed institute. That same year, at the initiative of Anatolii Shevchenko, the scientific journal Science. Religion. Society was founded, with Professor Anatolii Shevchenko named its Editor-in-Chief.

In 2001, by order of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Anatolii Shevchenko was appointed Rector of the Kyiv Scientific-Educational Complex “Intellect,” which in 2007 was reorganized by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine into the State University of Informatics and Artificial Intelligence of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

In 2006, during the General Assembly of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatolii Shevchenko was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the specialty “Computing Systems.”

Anatolii Shevchenko is the author of 157 scientific works, 10 patented inventions, and 15 educational-methodical manuals for schools and higher education institutions.
