Round table "European integration dimension of green transformation of the Ukrainian economy: synergy of business, government, education and community"23 May 2025р.
On May 16, 2025, at the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman, at the Department of International Economics, within the framework of the implementation of the EU grant project “Youth Leadership for Consolidation of EU Initiatives in the Context of Cross-Border Instability in Ukraine” under the ERASMUS+ program, a roundtable “European Integration Dimension of Green Transformation of Ukraine’s Economy: Synergy of Business, Government, Education and Community” was held. The event was moderated by Prof. Ilnytskyy D.O. The speakers and participants of the discussion suggested focusing on a variety of economic sectors and formats of interaction between stakeholders for the development of the green economy. There was a common understanding that green transformations take place in almost all sectors of the global and national economies, which requires the establishment of systemic interaction between all stakeholders, primarily representatives of business, government, higher education and communities. In the difficult conditions of the post-war recovery of the Ukrainian economy, the implementation of the principles of sustainable development and green transformation is of particular importance. Ukraine's integration into the European economic space is impossible without harmonization of environmental policies, innovative approaches to business, modernization of the energy sector and digital solutions aimed at increasing environmental efficiency. The round table, which was attended by about a hundred people, became a platform where experienced scientists, young researchers and practitioners met. An important focus of the round table was the discussion of opportunities for Ukraine to implement the EU's green course in its own recovery. The speech of Oleg Derkach, Honored Environmentalist of Ukraine, on the challenges and prospects of the Kuyalnytskyi National Nature Park became an important signal about the need to take into account environmental aspects when developing restoration strategies, as well as demonstrating the potential of natural capital for building a better future. Prof. Ivasiv I.B. spoke about the prospects for introducing ESG principles into banking activities using the example of JSC UNIVERSAL BANK. The report emphasized that in recent years, banks have been introducing individual elements of the ESG strategy without regulatory pressure, on their own initiative. Now, when the NBU is actively forming a regulatory framework for ESG (according to the White Paper, requirements for disclosure of ESG information are expected by 2027), we can expect a significant revival of banks' activity in this area. The reports of young researchers covered a wide range of topical topics, namely: • energy sustainability and international security (Elizaveta Merkotan); • tools for attracting foreign investment in the green sector (Iryna Gerasimenko); • promotion of eco-products using digital technologies (Karina Kyrylyuk); • ESG criteria as a new standard of contractual interaction (Valeria Tretyak); • application of green marketing in export promotion (Tetiana Shovkun); • impact of trade wars on the global green transition (Katerina Boguslavska). These topics and the depth of the research conducted indicate a high level of awareness of the challenges of modernity among young people and their readiness to offer practical solutions. We are proud of the active scientific position of students and teachers who invest knowledge, analytics and energy in building a new Ukraine - green, sustainable and competitive.
