The President signed a law on the protection of intellectual property when moving goods across the border02 December 2019р.

Implementation of the law will strengthen the fight against counterfeit goods, accelerate the movement across the customs border of Ukraine and customs clearance of original goods, promote international trade and raise the investment appeal of Ukraine. The law amends the Customs Code of Ukraine, in particular, defines the terms: "counterfeit goods", "pirated goods", "goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights". The document also stipulates that measures to promote the protection of intellectual property rights do not apply to original goods, ie goods manufactured with the consent of the right holder or goods made by an individual authorized by the right holder to produce a certain number of goods, in particular if their quantity exceeds the one previously negotiated between the individual and right holder. In addition, the law establishes the features of the suspension of customs clearance and destruction of small consignments of goods moving (shipped) across the customs border of Ukraine in international postal and express shipments. The law enters into force on the day following the day of its publication. UNIAN reference. To promote the protection of right holders during foreign economic activity, the State Customs Service of Ukraine maintains a customs register of intellectual property. Such objects are objects of copyright and related rights, inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, geographical indications (indications of origin of goods) and plant varieties. As of the beginning of August, more than 4,000 objects, including more than 1.3 existing ones, were entered into the customs register of intellectual property objects according to the applications of right holders. Last year, customs recorded more than 4,000 cases of suspension of customs clearance of goods on suspicion of infringement of intellectual property rights.
