Rector’s pageThe rector was born into a geologist’s family on August 8, 1955. He spent his early childhood in Starovychi Village, Ivankivskyi District, Kyiv Region, where he was raised by his grandmother Olha and great-grandmother Paraska. Since then, the love for Ukrainian Polissia, its people and nature, and even the soft dialect characteristic of those places have become part of him forever. Since 1962, the family has lived in the city of Boryspil, Kyiv Region. In 1970, he graduated from the 8th grade of Boryspil Secondary School No. 6. While studying with “excellent” grades, he showed remarkable abilities in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, as evidenced by his victories in district and regional contests in these subjects. At the same time, he studied violin at a music school, painted a lot, and wrote poetry. In 1970–1974, he studied at the Kyiv College of Electronic Devices, graduating with a degree in Radio Engineering Measurements, a very popular specialty at the time. He was actively involved in sports, including rowing, basketball, rugby, and parachuting. In 1974–1976, he served in the airborne troops and was demobilized with the rank of guards sergeant major. He started his career as a foreman of the radio shop of the Kyiv branch of the Generator plant. His studies at the Kyiv Institute of National Economy named after D.S. Korotchenko (now Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman) were crucial for his future professional career. As a student, he received the most prestigious personal scholarship at the time. He graduated with honors in 1980 with a degree in economics (industrial economics). Further professional activities are directly related to KNEU. He began his research and teaching career at the Department of Industrial Economics as a research intern, junior researcher, graduate student, assistant, senior lecturer, and associate professor. In 1986, he defended his PhD thesis on “Energy Consumption Efficiency of Regional Industrial and Production Systems (Based on the Materials of Industrial Enterprises of the city Kyiv).” He worked as a deputy dean of the Faculty of Planning and Economics (1987–1988). In 1989, together with the rector, Professor A.F. Pavlenko he initiated, and in 1990, together with his colleagues, O.M. Mozghovyi, T.M. Tsyhankova, S.I. Prylypko he created and headed the Department of International Economic Relations. Later he was the head of the departments of international economics and international management. In 1990, he graduated from the International Institute of Management “MIM-Kyiv” with a degree in Business Administration in Foreign Economic Activity, which was unique in Ukraine at that time. He completed his internship at the York University, Toronto (Canada), Sheraton Corporation, on the Toronto Stock Exchange. From 1995 to 2012, he served as Dean of the Faculty of International Economics and Management. Over the years, the faculty has become one of the largest and most prestigious in Ukraine. In 1996, he defended his doctoral thesis on “Development of the National Economy in Terms of International Integration”; since 1997, he has been a professor. He worked as a state and independent expert for the European Commission and United Nations. Since 2013, he has been the first Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. In 2017–2022 — Rector, since 2022 — Acting Rector On June 19, 2024, he was appointed Rector of the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman as a result of the will of the staff. He considers his greatest value to be his family: his parents, Hryhorii Lukianenko (1925–2011) and Kateryna Lukianenko (1924–2006), his sister Tetiana, his wife Liuba (married in 1977), who was and is his Love, Friend, and Muse; his daughter Olha (born in 1978), her sons Dmytro and Ivan; his son Oleksandr (born in 1985), his sons Oleksandr and Taras. The teachers who shaped him as a personality, professional, and patriot of Ukraine were: Olena Yevhenivna (a teacher of grades 1–4) and Doctor of Economics, Professor Serhii Pokropyvnyi. He is proud that he can realize his creative potential in the intellectual environment of KNEU, and considers the title of professor to be his most significant and invaluable academic and pedagogical achievement.
