Viktor KlimaViktor Klima (German: Viktor Klima; born June 4, 1947, Schwechat, Austria) is an Austrian statesman and politician who served as the Federal Chancellor of Austria from January 28, 1997, to February 4, 2000. Before his political career, Viktor Klima worked at the state oil company OMV, where he gained significant experience in the industrial sector. In 1992, he entered politics, joining the government of Franz Vranitzky as Minister of Transport and Industry. In 1996, he was appointed Minister of Finance of Austria. Following the resignation of Franz Vranitzky in 1997, Viktor Klima became the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and was appointed Federal Chancellor. He continued the policy of the "grand coalition," forming a government composed of representatives from Austria’s two largest parties—the SPÖ and the Austrian People's Party. His Vice-Chancellor was the leader of the conservatives, Wolfgang Schüssel. On April 16, 1998, in accordance with Protocol No. 6 of the Academic Council, Viktor Klima was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Kyiv National Economic University (KNEU).
