Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko

CHUMACHENKO Mykola Hryhorovich (01. 05. 1925 — 14. 10. 2011, Kyiv) — Doctor of Economic Sciences (1971), Professor (1971), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1982). Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (1995), laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2003),prizes named after O. Shlichter of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1980) and named after M. Tugan-Baranovsky of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine(1993); awarded the Orders "For Courage" of the 3rd degree (1999), "For Merit" of the 3rd degree (2005). Participant of World War II, was awarded state and combat awards of the USSR.

Graduated from Tbilisi University (1952). He served in the military (1943-1949); worked as an accountant in production (1949-1961).

Since 1961 he worked at Kyiv Institute of National Economy (now Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman). Since 1964 he worked as the head of the Department of Economic Analysis, part-time - dean of the Faculty of Industrial Planning, and in 1967-1970 he was the vice-rector for part-time and evening education.

In 1967-1968 he had an internship at the University of Illinois (the USA).

In 1971-1973 he worked as Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (Kyiv); in 1973-1995 - Director, since 1995 - Honorary Director, at the same time in 1975-2000 - Head of the Department of Production Management Problems, since 2000 - Chief Researcher of the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (Donetsk). Mykola Hryhorovych worked as the Permanent Representative of the Ukrainian SSR to the UN Commission on Transnational Corporations (1976-1978), was the Head of the Donetsk Scientific Center (1982-1995), and a member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1995-1998).

In 1998-2005, he was the head of the Department of Accounting in Credit and Budgetary Institutions (now the Department of Tax Management and Financial Monitoring (AML/CFT) named after Mykola Chumachenko) at Kyiv University of Economics (now Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman).

Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko was the initiator of creation of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine in 1993, which united scientists, lecturers, practitioners and representatives of state administration bodies for the development of national economic science. He became its first and permanent president, and since 2010 - its honorary president.

Mykola Hryhorovych's research areas: improving production management, accounting (financial and managerial), economic and financial analysis, problems of management automation, economics and management of industries, economic problems of ecology and resource conservation, management of the regional economy, scientific and technological progress, analysis of economic reforms in Ukraine.

On November 16, 2006, in accordance with the protocol №5 of the Academic Council, Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman awarded Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko the title of Honorary Doctor for his significant contribution to the development of economic science and education in Ukraine.
