Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman

Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko

Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko was a distinguished Ukrainian economist, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

In 1951, Mykola Hryhorovych graduated from Kyiv Financial and Economic Institute. In 1971, he obtained his Doctor of Economics degree and was awarded the title of Professor. His academic legacy includes over 900 publications, including 32 monographs.

Professional Career:

  • 1955–1965: Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • 1965–1969: Rector of Kyiv Institute of National Economy (now KNEU named after Vadym Hetman), while also heading the Department of Political Economy.
  • 1975–1981: Head of the Department of Production Management at the Institute of Industrial Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • 1981–1982: Academic Secretary of the Department of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
  • 1982–1993: Head of the Donetsk Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (later the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).
  • 1993–2011: Founder and first President of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine.

On November 16, 2006, in accordance with Protocol No. 5 of the Academic Council, Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman awarded Mykola Hryhorovych Chumachenko the title of Doctor Honoris Causa for his significant contributions to the development of economic science and education in Ukraine.
