History

The Ukrainian Stock Market Development Institute is a higher educational establishment of accreditation level IV. It was founded in 1991 by Kyiv National Economics University as the Graduate School of Entrepreneurship. In 1997 it was renamed into the Ukrainian Stock Market Development Institute as a result of the conclusion of a contract between Kyiv National Economics University and the State Securities and Stock Market Commission on co-operation and training of specialists in the field of the stock market.

The Institute is an educational methodology centre of the State Securities and Stock Market Commission (since 2000).

The institute provides basis for Examination Commissions that hold examinations for the issue of a qualification certificate specified by the State Securities and Stock Market Commission for the exercise of activities in the following specialities:

  • securities trading organisation specialist;
  • registered securities register maintenance specialist;
  • securities trading specialist;
  • custody activities specialist;
  • institutional investors' asset management specialist;
  • arbitration trustee in bankruptcy proceedings with the involvement of professional members of the securities market in Ukraine;
  • chief accountant of professional members of the securities market;
  • financial monitoring specialist.

The first Financial Market Master programme in the speciality of Finance was opened by the Ukrainian Stock Market Development Institute in 2000 for the first time in Ukraine in order to develop the higher education system and improve the system of re-training and qualification development of stock market and corporate governance specialists.

The Institute publishes official printed bulletins of the State Securities and Stock Market Commission, such as:

  • the daily Securities of Ukraine bulletin;
  • the Securities of Ukraine information analysis weekly;
  • the Ukraine's Securities Market magazine (categorised by the Highest Assessment Committee of Ukraine as a specialist magazine suitable for the publication of results of the thesis work in the field of Economic Sciences).

In addition, the Institute publishes the "Joint Stock Company" magazine together with the Association of Stock Market Lawyers.

The Institute pursues scientific research to orders of state authorities (e.g., the State Securities and Stock Market Commission, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the State Property Fund of Ukraine, etc.).

Specialists of the Institute take part in the development of legislative acts dedicated to the development of the financial market. They, for instance, co-authored Laws of Ukraine ""On Joint Investment Institutions (Unit Investment Trust Funds and Corporate Joint Investment Funds)", "On Non-state Pension Provision", "On Securities and Stock Market", and regulations of central executive agencies.

The Head of the Ukrainian Stock Market Development Institute is a member of advisory and consultancy bodies established by the President of Ukraine, committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the State Property Fund of Ukraine, and the State Securities and Stock Market Commission.
